Maple City Pottery: Handcrafted Pottery
Our pottery is made in the USA in Monmouth, Illinois. Each piece is made the old fashioned way by hand, decorated by hand, and then loaded by hand into a kiln. Using primitive techniques, rock salt is introduced during the firing process to create a durable salt glaze. Because of the nature in which our pottery is created, no two pieces are exactly alike. Many variations occur, from a spot of heavier glaze, to colors ranging from browns to tans, to brown flashings when two pots "kiss" during the fire. As with any handmade ware, size and design may vary slightly.
Maple City Pottery Finishes
We offer two different finishes. Our Traditional salt glaze appears as a buff gray color to a light tan. Our Primitive Brown salt glaze was just recently introduced. This method provides a beautiful antique reproduction look. The intensity of the brown varies from piece to piece depending on the placement of the kiln. Because of the natural organic materials in the clay, some handling marks may be evident. These slight imperfections add to the uniqueness of each piece.
Maple City Pottery Uses
All stoneware are lead free, dishwasher safe, and may be used in any conventional oven.
DO NOT USE on stove top, and avoid sudden heating and cooling changes.
